Do you want to make everyone believe what you think it is true?

Your friend is giving you a ride on a dark road. You believe that there is a bridge on your way that has been damaged by flood. Considering the car speed and the road condition, you warn your friend that you are going to die passing the bridge. Unlike you, your friend believes that the bridge is totally fine and there is nothing to worry about. Now it is time for a big decision: you either take the control of the car (this may need some force) and chose another road or gently ask your friend to stop the car and let you get off. What would you do?

  1. A belief is a strong knowledge about a subject that may be true or not. But for a believer it will be always true. So as I believe the bridge is broken, first I try to convince my friend to stop the car (it depends how close we are to the bridge, because I may jump out of the car after a warning). If not I will get off the car for sure.

  2. I just care as much as s/he does! and do what I believe in.
I've been trying for a while NOT to make everyone believe what I think is right; that's unnecessary! At most, I just present them what I think is right and let them decide themselves.

  3. SO why do you think most of the religions try to make ALL people, no matter they have a belief or not, believe in what they say? and the funny part to me is they all say I am the one telling the truth and no one else is and none of them has any logical or scientific proof of their legitimacy.

  4. I would just simply ignore them. I'm not gonna live long enough to convince all.

  5. Dear Hamed,

Definitely you are right. It is the human nature when we believe in something; we think that is the best way and we want to show the other people the same path. But what I see that confuses people in your post is they don’t realize how strong a belief is. A belief is not simply a thought or a philosophical view, it is something that sticks to your mind and you can’t change it easily. So if you BELEVE the bridge is broken, you see that is broken and if you don’t tell your friend, you are not a friend!
What need to be criticized is having a certain BELIF it self, not changing the people mind as most of the scientific approaches and philosophical theories try to do so.

  6. I am talking about the things that nobody can see. The road is dark, and based on some news about the weather you believe that the bridge is broken (but no evidence what so ever). Your friend says that the bridge survived worse ones before.
The thing that bothers me is people believe in different things (may or may not be the fact) which are not supported by any tangible evidence or proof. So, all talk about the legitimacy of their believes but nobody can prove it. Now, why people do not think for a sec that somebody else might be right? They are so fanatical that they do not want to even listen and just talk and talk! All I am saying is we are all at the same boat here and no one has seen the land so far, so what a crazy thing to fight over the direction? just split the boat and take the way you think it ends up in victory, BUT listen to others before you divert!
